Gardening for Beginners
Building your own garden can be overwhelming, but it can be simpler as it sounds. With your own garden, you can relieve stress and find enjoyment, while getting easy access to fresh produce, and contributing positively to your neighborhood and the environment. Here are some things to consider when you want to start a home garden on a budget:
Use Recycled Items

Good gardeners are creative and resourceful. Using recycled finds for your seedlings not only cuts your gardening expenses, but is also a way to care for the environment. Some of the useful items you can find at home are egg shells, egg cartons, cup noodle containers, unused ice cube trays, and soda bottles. Start those seedlings in these planters and look after them until they are ready for new soil. If you are creative enough, you can also repurpose unused and disposable home items to design your garden.
Regrow plants

Don’t throw out your vegetable and herb cuttings. Some vegetables like lettuce and celery can be regrown from your kitchen scraps. Cut 1 – 2 inches from the base and place in a shallow bowl of water. The same can be done for the tops of carrots and the roots of green onions and leeks. Herbs like basil and mint can be grown from cuttings of about 2 – 3 inches. Place the stems in a glass of water and wait a few days for roots to sprout. Once the new roots have grown, you can replant in soil for a whole new plant.
Choose the Right Tools

If you’re just starting out, you don’t need to buy expensive and sophisticated gardening tools to have a nice home garden. It’s advisable to just invest in starter or basic tools when you’re just starting to fulfill your gardening dreams. Gardening tools such as a hand cultivator, watering can, and a garden knife are just some of the basic tools that you can buy online or in the supermarket without spending much.
Start Slow

As a beginner, it’s not smart to buy a lot of plants all at once. Try to figure out which type of plant works for you and your garden then start building from there. As time goes by you’ll be surprised how far you’ve come in your gardening journey. Taking care of plants is not something you can master in just a few days, it takes some practice and patience to really get the hang of it.
