What is a Phishing scam?

It is an attempt by scammers to access your account and steal your money to perform fraudulent transactions under your name.

How to spot a Phishing or Fraudulent E-mail

  • A call, text, or email from an unknown number or email address.
  • The message contains a link that is unknown or looks suspicious.
  • The message requests for your personal information or credentials such as Account Name, Account Number, PIN, One Time Password (OTP), Birthday, Address, and others. The message is poorly written, not in the proper context or, often with grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors, or has typographical errors.
  • The message creates a sense of urgency and panic to the recipient.
  • Includes a link that redirects you to a page that appears to be like PNB’s official website.

  • Check the email address of the sender before opening the email. Open emails ONLY from people you trust. If in doubt, verify with the sender through another medium. One way of checking an organization’s domain name is to search the company’s name into an internet search engines.
  • Do not click unverified links or provide personal information until you have confirmed that the email is legitimate.
  • Always verify the unknown number calling and/or texting you.
  • Do not open file attachments or links on unsolicited messages coming from unknown senders requiring you to share your personal information or credentials such as Account Name, Account Number, PIN, One Time Password (OTP), Birthday, Address, and others.

  • Regularly change password
  • Do not use easy-to-guess passwords such as names or birthdays
  • Do not use the same password as your email account, social media accounts or other online services.
  • Always check your SMS and email notifications to verify all your transactions
  • Immediately update your mobile banking app when a new version is available
  • Do not use public WIFI when accessing your accounts online
  • Do not root or jailbreak your mobile device
  • Make sure that your contact details with the bank are updated
  • Immediately report to the bank if your mobile device was lost or stolen
