PNB leads occupational safety & health for PHL banks

Philippine National Bank (PNB) takes an active role in promoting occupational safety and health as majority of its officers were inducted to the Safety Officers Association in the Philippine Banking Industry, Inc. (SOAPBI, Inc.) last June 26 at the PNB Financial Center. The oath-taking ceremony was led by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Undersecretary Joel B. Maglunsod, who thanked PNB and SOAPBI for being prime movers of the initiative.

SOAPBI, Inc. is the first and only organization in the Philippine banking industry to pioneer safety practices in the workplace, pursuant to the highest standards set by the Philippine Law on Occupational Safety and Health. Most of the members are PNB officers, with the Bank’s Enterprise Security Division Head, Atty. Roderick Soriano, as president. “SOAPBI aims to be a strong partner of the Philippine government in promoting the general welfare of workers,” he said. “It is PNB’s pride to have its officers as members of the association.”

This development further cements PNB’s commitment as a pioneer in promoting the welfare of employees. The bank was certified by DOLE in 2017 as a labor-compliant institution – the first bank to be recognized as such in the Philippine banking industry after fulfilling the requirements on general labor and occupational safety and health standards.
